Welcome to Flavours of Cyprus Recipe Site where you will find Traditional Cyprus recipes that will introduce you to and also help you to explore the true flavours of Cyprus.
The Fresh ingredients and mixed heritage influences in Cyprus provide the wonderful full bodied flavours of Cypriot Cuisine “Kipriaki Kouzina”.
Cyprus enjoys a healthy Mediterranean diet high in the consumption of Olive Oil, Pulses, unrefined cereals, fruits and vegetables, moderate to high consumption of fish and dairy products, moderate consumption of wine, meat and meat products. On November 17, 2010, UNESCO recognized this diet pattern as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Italy, Greece, Spain and Morocco. Cyprus cuisine is also influenced by Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisine. All in all Cyprus enjoyes a varied cuisine.
Many of these recipes were passed on to me by my mother and her mother before her and I learned to cook them as a child by helping my mother prepare them. This will help to explain why many are not in the usual formal recipe format as I am not used to weighing or measuring quantities.
My family home Kontoyiannis House is a traditional stone built Cypriot house that my family now run as holiday apartments and it was the request of our quests for recipes that prompted me to add this online recipe collection.
Also included in theis site is section for International Recipes, Cooking Tips – where you can add your tips or hints so that you can share your ideas on easy techniques and shortcuts. We will also share our cooking techniques and easy tips that have been passed down for generations but are used in Cypriot cooking today.
